Chapman University, a private institution located in Orange, California, does conduct interviews as part of their admissions process but it is not a requirement for all applicants. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, admission interviews may be conducted online. The purpose of the admission interview is to provide applicants with the opportunity to share their story, to learn more about the university and its programs, and to assess whether the university is the right fit for the student.
According to a recent study by the National Association for College Admission Counseling, meeting with a college admissions representative can provide a significant boost in the probability of admission. It has been noted that “Participating in an admission interview can demonstrate a specific interest in the college or university and the programs it offers.”
The Table below shows the percentage of how interviews affected admission results and enrollment of students.
Institution | % of Students Who Participated in the Interview | % of Admitted Students Who Participated in the Interview | % of Enrolled Students Who Participated in the Interview |
---|---|---|---|
Bucknell University | 35% | 64% | 45% |
Lafayette College | 33% | 62% | 36% |
Smith College | 68% | 70% | 53% |
Union College | 66% | 73% | 32% |
University of Rochester | 51% | 68% | 27% |
Overall, it is recommended that students take advantage of the opportunity to interview if given the option. It can provide a way for students to showcase themselves and their enthusiasm for the university, and in some cases, it can potentially increase their likelihood of admission.
